It is already the 4th January and I still have not started any of my new years resolutions apart from a very bad attempt to get fitter and struggling to motivate myself on a daily basis to continue. However, the plan is to write down the resolutions for 2014 tomorrow together with my girlfriend and come up with a bucket list for this year. We have been really successful in working through our bucket list in 2013 and shared some really amazing moments together. Additionally, we will start again our dream wall to keep focus on the things that really matter to us and we want to achieve.
While writing this post, I did a bit of research on the internet in regards to bucket lists and the things that might be important to be on this list. And here is a video that I found about rethinking the bucket list. It really is thought provoking, gives a different perspective to things and is a reminder about what really matters.
I found this great post about inspiring people to be happy and more optimistic. Just love it!
How do you inspire happiness? Some find it easy to do so by stringing together beautiful sentences with words that fall into place and fill gaps in our minds. Others create magic by strumming a few notes on their guitar that can instantly lift your spirit. Then there are those who mix the stunning worlds of writing and design to form the best of both worlds.
In this case – Citizens for Optimism; a collaboration of 17 designers who created posters inspiring optimism. There are 17 posters in all, inspired by 17 words.
I did find this really great piece of text that really made me think a lot about the little things we can do each day to live a happy life. It does not always have to be something big or challenging. Just read it yourself and let me know what you think. For me this sums up all the important things in life and I will make it happen. I do actually will print it out when I am back at home and put it on my wall, so that I can get reminded. Enjoy reading and living up to it!
Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.
It is better to look ahead and prepare than to look back and regret.
Sitting at home at your 31st birthday can be dangerous as you might start thinking too much about life and how much of it has already past. This can easily drag you into a little early mid-life crisis, but you could also enjoy dreaming of the things to come and celebrate a so far fantastic 2012 with many more exciting things to come. And I decided for the second option!
I used today to add a few new pictures of my dreams and put them up on our dream wall, because I was told and read it on many occasions that you have to picture your dreams or even better feel them when closing your eyes and thinking about them. Now, the question might come up why or how. We (my girl friend and I) decided to dedicate a wall in our room to all our dreams from the big to the small ones. We are consistently finding pictures on the internet or take pictures of things we like and put them together in a big wall collage, which you can see here:
If you do not want to decorate one of your walls with all these pictures you can try an online pin wall like pinterest. This is a new social media platform where you can pin things you find on the web on different boards and can share it with people. Check it out, it is a great tool to save your ideas or little things you like.
But why are we doing this? The main reason is motivation and focus. I see these pictures every day several times and they remind me why I am doing some long hours here and there and what I am working towards to. Another great place to put up a few pictures is the fridge door as we all go there very often in the course of the day. Do not put these things in a cupboard or the most far away corner where nobody can see them. And also please dream big as you might be surprised that you will drive exactly the car you put up on the wall in a few years time.
Another reason for us picturing our dreams on the wall is that it helps you to achieve them faster. You get reminded ona daily basis what you want and how you like to life and it will become a picture in your subconscious mind that will help you make the right decisions on your way. We also do believe that by picturing your dreams you will achieve them faster as life is too short. You think this is just an old saying not true – try this exercise to give you a picture of what is left of your life. Below you will see a scale from 0 to 100 that illustrates the life of human being.
In the UK, people live until their mid 70’s and if you are lucky with a lot of positive thoughts, a healthy lifestyle and a bit of luck you might make it to your 80’s or even longer. Now, put a mark on your current age and one at your projected age – but try to be realistic! And then you can see the life span that you have left on this planet to make your dreams happen. Please do not start shrinking your dreams now to fit into your life, but make sure that you find a way of making your dreams come true as soon as possible and live life to the full.
I don’t want to get to the end of my life and find I lived just the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well.
